My name is Azar Khojasteh, and I was born and raised in San Diego. I come from a diverse background—my father is from Iran, and my mother is Mexican American, originally from Arizona. I’m a proud mom to my two-year-old son, Tommy, and to Melo, my four-year-old Morkie. Music has always been a major passion in my life, which naturally inspired my educational journey. I earned my Associate of Arts in Music Studies, along with a certificate in Engineering and Production, from Miramar Community College, and went on to receive my Bachelor of Arts in Music from San Diego State University.
I began my professional journey at 15 years old after receiving my work permit from Clairemont High School. During high school, I worked for three out of my four years at Barons Marketplace before transitioning into roles within the San Diego Unified School District. Inspired by my mother’s 17-year career as a preschool teacher, I developed a deep love for children and education. While attending college, I worked as a preschool assistant and later as a one-on-one aide for students with special needs. Over the years, I’ve explored several industries, but I found my passion in administration and accounting. I pride myself on being a collaborative, team-oriented professional who leads with a helper’s mindset—always asking, “Where can I help, and who can I help?” I truly believe teamwork makes the dream work.
Outside of work, I value doing nothing whenever I can. In my free time, I love reading, walking, baking, and crafting. Creativity runs in my family—my grandmother handmade Christmas stockings for all of her grandchildren for many years (ie: I have 28 stockings), and I’m grateful to have inherited that crafting gene. I make Christmas stockings year-round and gift them during the holiday season. I adore spending time with my son Tommy, who keeps life exciting and full of energy. I’ve actively been involved within my church, Kensington Community Church, since 2015. I have served as Moderator and currently serve on the pastoral search committee for a new Senior Minister. I have always had a passion for homeless advocacy and have worked to bring that mission into my church community. White wine is my beverage of choice.
